Choosing an HDTV

First, you must choose between three styles, which include HD ready, integrated HDTV, and Digital Cable Ready. An HD ready will display standard definition television shows without any other requirements, however, to display other digital channels you will need a digital cable or satellite box. An integrated HDTV has an ASTC digital built right in and does not need any other type of equipment besides an antenna on the roof. A Digital Cable Ready is the type of HDTV that uses a digital card from a cable company or satellite company that is plugged into your television set.

You will also have to make a decision with the aspect ration. This is easy to understand once you understand the basics. A square screen is 4:3 aspect and a wide screen is 16:9 or 15:9 aspect. The wide screen offers a regular shape that is close to what you see at the movie theater, which is often referred to, as letterbox.

You should measure your viewing distance in order to find the perfect HDTV. The recommended viewing distance for HDTV's is three times the height of the screen. If you look at the sizes, you will find ones from 26 to 36 inches and even larger. For an HDTV screen that is 26 inches, the viewing distance, which is best for this size, would be 78 inches or just over 6 feet. For a farther viewing distance, you will need a larger screen.

As well as deciding what you are looking for in a HDTV, you must also find the best location for the HDTV that will ensure you can accommodate all the gadgets you want to use with your television set such as VCR's, DVD's, and cable or satellite boxes, you do not want to have to use extensions cords and plug in all these gadgets clear across the room with wires all over the room.
